Whenever we get the chance to travel up north to Vermejo Park Ranch, we do! Welcome to another one of our Northern New Mexico mountain vacation.
My husband works at Vermejo during elk season and a few other times throughout the year, but Brody and I don’t get the chance to visit him there until the summer. However, there are always exceptions. On this trip, we took Brody out of school first of May so we could come up while my husband was here.
Northern New Mexico Mountain Vacation
Most of the time, we stay in Tracy’s trailer, but sometimes we get invited to stay at the ranch as guests. What does that mean? A lot more. We get to stay in a cabin, and we get to eat in the restaurant. This place is fantastic, and the food is even more amazing. Vermejo treats its guests like royalty.
It’s fishing season now, and guests from all around come out to try their hand at fishing and to enjoy the ranch. The nights here are gorgeous, and you will see a deer or two. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot an elk or even a bear. I always look for bear when I’m here, but didn’t see any on this trip.
Hiking the Gazebo
You can’t come up to the ranch for hiking without hiking the Gazebo. It only took me ten years to finally get the courage to climb up there. I can now say, “I Hiked the Gazebo.”
The kids that work on the ranch go up there all the time. It’s a good workout for them.
The below picture is looking down from Gazebo to the ranch. It’s pretty neat up there.
Dinner at the Ranch
If you’re a guest at the ranch, whether, elk hunting, fishing, bear hunting, whatever, this is the type of food you will eat. Forgive me, but I have no remembrance of what the meals are called, but they were delicious!! Expect I know that’s a hamburger. Is that not a huge burger?
The above photo was a four or five-course meal. How could you not love this?
Costilla Lodge
Costilla Lodge is a beautiful lodge way up the mountain. Through twist and turns, it takes about an hour to drive up there from the main lodge. Once there, you are in awe of nature.
Fishing Day
Fishing buddies
Nighttime in the mountains at Vermejo Park Ranch made our Northern New Mexico mountain vacation one of the best. If I had seen a bear, it would have been the best yet. Being out in nature sure has its benefits. There’s nothing better than encountering something wild.
This post wasn’t so much about Vermejo as it was about our vacation there. But it’s hard not to talk about the ranch and everything it offers its guests. Vermejo is mainly a private elk hunting ranch with other hunts available throughout the year. But it seems that each year, more activities are available, like birding, mountain biking, hiking with a guide, sport shooting, horseback riding, and more.
If you’re reading this, you’ll want to check out Vermejo Park Ranch yourself.
