February 14, 2021 Kim Leave a Comment

Did you know there are unspoken hiking laws to keep the environment clean and safe? In this guide to green hiking, I’ll touch on some of the main ones. It’s our duty to the planet that we “leave no trace” behind to protect it. So, grab this must-have hiking kit, and let’s go!

Leave No Trace: A Guide To Green Hiking

It’s like the Cub Scouts are taught about “Leave No Trace” behind, but more than that because we strive for something better – sustainable hiking. Read through this post and any other materials you can find on low-impact hiking and camping so you can do your part in keeping the earth the way Mother Nature intended.

My son went through five years of Cub Scouting, and at the end of February, he will cross over to Boy Scouts. His dad and I are very proud of him, and we can’t wait to see him go through another five with Boy Scouts. He’ll be doing a lot of camping and hiking soon, and he always knows not to leave a trace!

Our Guide To Green Hiking

  1. Respect nature and stay on the path. Don’t go off the path to pick the flowers. Leave no trace on your walks in the woods.
  2. When buying products for your hikes and camping, like shampoo, soap, sunscreen, bug spray, buy the green-friendly ones. It may cost more, but worth it to keep our planet safe.
  3. Let wildlife live peacefully in their habitats. Don’t bother them, their homes, and please do not feed them.
  4. Be aware of your surroundings and never leave anything behind, not even your poop.
  5. Bring along reusable gear, including these green products, in the Nomadik Subscription boxes.

Coalatree Nomad Package Duffel Bag for Green Hiking

Leave No Trace: A Guide to Green Hiking
Duffel Bag by Coalatree Nomad

Made from recycled nylon, this environmentally friendly packable duffel bag is your saving grace when camping, road tripping, or even going to the store. You can pack it all and still have room for your shoes! Oh, and it’s super easy to stuff back into the pocket (I did it, yay me!) to take in the car with you for those times you want to take a bag in the grocery store.

This guide to green hiking is intended to help you understand the importance of not messing with the land on which you and I roam. Something we should teach our kids as well.

United by Blue Staw Kit

Reusable stainless steel straw kit with cleaning brush.

What’s better than reusable stainless straws – nothing! So much better than using those throwaway straws. Something else to keep in your car so you can say “No” to a straw when you drive through for a drink. Plus, the exterior case is 100% recycled polyester made from plastic bottles and is water-resistant. Great for travel!

“In every walk with Nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” – John Muir

“It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” – Sir Edmund Hillary
