Glamping Near Fort Worth this Winter

Glamping Near Fort Worth on the Brazos is a great idea for the whole family.

Glamping anytime should be fun and glamorous. I wasn’t looking, but I stumbled on glamping near Fort Worth this winter and decided to try it. Disclosure: My family was given a glamping weekend at the Sundancer on the Brazos in exchange for writing about our experience.

I couldn’t stop talking to everyone I knew about our glamping trip I scheduled for February. We were all excited to get away for the weekend for some relaxation and go “glamping” for the first time. I’m not a “tent camper,” so that’s why I wanted to check out this glamping thing that everyone is raving about.

So, while surfing the Internet for something else, I stumbled on Sundancer on the Brazos Glamping Site. I was intrigued because it was close to my house yet far enough away for a fun weekend. I emailed the owner to see if we could partner. He said yes immediately, and we booked our dates – FEBRUARY! My husband thought I was crazy about booking a glamping weekend in the middle of winter in North Texas. You never know what the weather will be like here, and glamping near Fort Worth this winter would be an iffy thing to schedule.

On Friday, February 15th, we left home after our son got out of school, and it was a sunny and enjoyable day for February. Only an hour or so from home, the weather there was the same. The minute we arrived, I knew our weekend would be excellent. Sundancer on the Brazos was gorgeous, and the surroundings were surreal. This glamping tent was the coolest thing I’d ever seen when it comes to hanging out in nature.

My son was in the camping mode and found the perfect spot for the weekend — the ole’ hammock.

Just look how cool the Sundancer tent is inside. Pretty nice, uh? The tent had all the amenities needed for a luxury weekend in the woods – away from everyone and everything. The inside was warm and inviting. It was a charming and comfortable place.

I didn’t get a picture of the bathroom, but it was pretty nice. The bathroom itself was spacious, and the shower was huge. All three of us could have fit inside. We were prepared to enjoy our time here.

Nothing but s’ mores for this kid – it’s a prerequisite for camping. Well, glamping in this case.

Our Adventure Glamping at Sundancer On The Brazos

By Friday night, the weather had turned ugly. It had gotten pretty darn cold by bedtime. We tried to warm up the tent to sleep comfortably all night. Remember, you never know what the weather will be like near Fort Worth. It could be in the ’70s all day long and then drop to the thirties in the wee hours of the night.

Well, it went downhill hill from here. We couldn’t get the heat in the main room, so we froze all night. There were creatures in the night roaming around on top of the tent. Yes, we heard them. When morning came, we were frozen. We made coffee and decided to go to town for breakfast. But, when I saw a mouse inside the tent near the shower, I screamed. The owner said (in a note) that he would come around to meet us. He never came.

I want to say we were thrilled to experience glamping for the first time, but I was hoping for something better. I’m not a fan of mice, and I don’t particularly appreciate sleeping when it’s cold inside. I certainly don’t appreciate sleeping in a bed shared by mice. I know those little creatures were trying to stay warm. EEK.

After returning from town, we cut our weekend short and headed home. The owner was very understanding and apologized that we had experienced this. He emailed me a couple of days later to tell me they had fixed the problems.

But I did say above, “My family was given a glamping weekend at the Sundancer on the Brazos in exchange for writing about our experience.” In this case, our experience started wonderfully but ended in us leaving early. But I know glamping is fun and should be fun. I will try glamping, but maybe not in the winter months when mice want to come inside where it’s warm. Another EEK!
