Top 10 USA Dog Beaches to Visit this Summer
We consider our dogs part of the family, but do we take them to the beach? If you do, then you’ll want to check out this list to find out why these top 10 USA dog beaches to visit this summer made it and where the locations are!
According to the latest AKC Family Dog magazine, the top 10 USA dog beaches are here. Though the article did not mention why these top 10 dog beaches made this list, I looked up each one to find the reasons. I hope you enjoy it!
Top 10 USA Dog Beaches
DEL MAR DOG BEACH – DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA
This beach has maintained its status since its incorporation in 1959. Nine months of the year, dogs are allowed along the entire two-plus mile stretch of beach in addition to the city’s two major parks, Seagrove Park and Powerhouse Park. A perfect dog beach to visit this summer with your 4-legged best friend.
DOUBLE BLUFF BEACH – FREELAND, WASHINGTON
Not only can you let your dog run off-leash here, but this beautiful beach also faces Puget Sound. You’ll see big ships pass by all day. On a clear day, Mt. Rainier can be seen, as well as the Olympic Peninsula. How cool is that!
FORT DE SOTO PARK – ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA
Fort De Soto has the only dog park where dogs are allowed on the beach in a designated area. There are also two fenced-in areas near the beach for large and small dogs with water stations. Trip Advisor named it America’s Top Beach for 2009.
JEKYLL ISLAND BEACH – JEKYLL ISLAND, GEORGIA
It is a small beach with walking trails and a great beach to relax and let our dogs play. You’ll also find dog-friendly hotels.
MONTROSE DOG BEACH – CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

ROSIE’S DOG BEACH – LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA
A favorite local beach, Rosie’s Beach is located about a mile from the pier and is marked off by orange cones. The pet area is large, so there is plenty of space to throw the ball or frisbee in and out of the water. There is easy, free parking. The beach is kid-friendly, too.
TOPSAIL BEACH – NORTH CAROLINA
Check before you go to this beach. There are times when dogs have to be on a leash and times when they can be off-leash. It seems like the entire area is pet-friendly, including hotels and apartments.
NAGS HEAD BEACH – NAGS HEAD, NORTH CAROLINA
There are quite a lot of pet-friendly vacation rentals at this beach. Dogs with a leash are allowed on the beach year-round.
WARREN DUNES STATE PARK – SAWYER, MICHIGAN
There are lots and lots of great reviews on this beach and the local area. Read up before you go—I think you’ll love what you read. I did…and it makes me want to visit!
WILDWOOD DOG BEACH – WILDWOOD, NEW JERSEY
There is a designated area for dogs to play. Look for the 25-foot-high fire hydrant sculpture. Freshwater and clean-up bags are available, and the beach is open until dusk.

Don’t forget to take plenty of water for yourself and your four-legged family member.

Our fur babies definitely deserve to enjoy the summer as well. We have adopted 2 new dogs and it would be nice to take them to these places during the summer! Thanks for the list!
Thank you for this list of dog friendly beaches to visit. My dog would really enjoy the beach! Thanks to you, we now have a list of dog friendly beaches. From now on, my dog will be able to go with us for our yearly beach vacation!
Some dogs are just born for the beach. I think any of these beaches would be ideal for those dogs and dog lovers alike.
This is a great list! My dog will surely enjoy beach this summer!
We live in Atlanta which is a very pet-friendly town. I’m delighted to see more pet friendly beaches and hotels.
My dogs jump for joy when we go to the beach. Unfortunately, our beach only has a small section squared off for dogs, so I would totally love to take them to one of these dog friendly beaches so they can romp around to their heart’s content.
It never really occurred to me that there may be some beaches that are not-so dog friendly!! I love that you compiled this list because my in-laws would love that!
How amazing do they all sound! My Sal used to love the beach, though I’m not sure how she would get on with it now in her old age, might have to take her to find out.
This is a great list and most people with dogs will be within reach of one. I am closest to Wildwood a 11/2 hour drive. We have two dogs and never took them to the beach yet so this could be our chance.
