These thrilling activities at Adventures On The Gorge will blow you away!

What you’ll find here are only thrills and excitement! If that’s what you’re looking for, then these thrilling activities at Adventures on the Gorge will put a smile on your face and, when completed, will boost your confidence!

But first, do you know what the newest National Park in the US is?

It’s the beautiful New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in West Virginia …and I just happened to have visited there a couple of months ago. The scenic drive alone will make you crave more.

Disclosure: I was invited on a media trip to Adventures On The Gorge, which is inside the national park. It was also my first time to visit West Virginia. All opinions are my own.

Thrilling Activities At Adventures On The Gorge

If you’re looking for an adventure, we have just the place for you. The Gorge is full of thrilling activities that will get your blood pumping and give you memories to last a lifetime. Whether it’s ziplining through the trees or white water rafting down rapids, there is something here for everyone!

New River Gorge National Park And Preserve

The New River Gorge National River in West Virginia is one of the oldest rivers in the world, and now it’s the namesake of America’s newest national park: New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The park encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers abundant scenic and recreational opportunities.

Did you know that all purchases in the national park store help sport the people, places, and national parks? I bought a book to help me keep track of all the national parks I’ll be visiting this year and next.

Adventures On The Gorge Thrilling Activities

I spent three full adventurous days here with five other people. We had an adventure of a lifetime. The best things happen when you get a bunch of people together from all over the US doing adventure activities that some have never experienced. It was a trip that will not be forgotten! We stayed in cabins in the park that were spacious and cozy.

Adventure on The Gorge Bridge Walking Tour

Don’t just drive it …walk it! Yes, underneath that 3,030-foot-long and 876-foot-high bridge on Highway 19 —the longest single-span bridge in the Western Hemisphere and third-highest in the United States is a hidden gem activity called the “Bridge Walk.” A tour guide takes you and your group on a two-foot wide catwalk that runs along its entire length—another thrilling activity at The Gorge. The bridge is one of the highest bridges in the world. It’s pretty exciting if you ask me.

Have you ever participated in something for the first time and felt a sense of accomplishment after it was over? All of our group did, and most of us found it to be action-packed.

The Bridge Walking Tour is not new to the park but is an activity not too many people have done. If you’re scared of heights, it may not be for you, but do not worry; you’re harnessed in and not going anywhere but forward! Our tour guide was terrific, and he knew his stuff. He offered a bit of trivia about the bridge, and one or two of us belted out the answer. He kept it interesting, and I’d do it all over again! If you’ve never walked across the New River Gorge Bridge, you’re missing out on one of the most unique experiences in West Virginia.

Special Event: Bridge Day is in October, the only time ziplining is offered from the bridge. Now, that’s a big thrill, according to our guide. He said he did it once, and that was enough for him.

Gravity Zipline

A thrill in a half zipping over the Gorge! I think this was my favorite of all. I can’t remember how many zip lines we zipped, but it was so much fun. Then, in the end, you repel down to the ground (still harnessed in), and that was a hoot. It was my first time doing something like that.

Check out the Gravity Zipline here.

TreeTops Zip Line Canopy Tour

West Virginia is a state of mountains and forests, where the trees cover over 80% of the land. If you want to experience the magic of West Virginia’s mountain forests, there’s no better way than high up in the beautiful trees at Adventure On The Gorge.

You’ll zip, then walk across a bridge, then zip again, and walk across another bridge. It’s a thrill for sure …and I would do it repeatedly.

The tour guides were excellent—actually, they were the best I’ve ever seen. They gave us a lesson, gave us zip tips, and laughed.

Plan 2-3 hours for this activity.

Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting is an exhilarating experience that people of all ages can enjoy. Knowing what you’re getting yourself into is important before you go out on the river. However, the guides are trained professionals who know how to handle any situation that might arise during your trip down the rapids. They’ll keep everyone safe while providing tips on navigating through tricky areas of the river safely. Anyone with the guts to do it will have an excellent experience.

At Adventure On The Gorge, there are two areas to raft—the upper and lower New Rivers. These guys were on the lower—it’s faster and more adventurous than the lower—and they couldn’t get enough.

Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself with a whitewater rafting trip or want a fun activity to do in the water, this activity can be a bit intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s an incredibly fun experience—so that’s what they told me. Full disclosure: I did not participate.

The rafting season starts on April 1st.

Hiking Hawks Nest State Park

Hiking is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. It’s also a good way to get some exercise and an excellent way to get away from it all. When hiking with friends, you’ll have fun bonding over your shared experience and maybe even meet some new people along the way! That’s precisely what Adeina and I did. We talked about our great visit to Southern West Virginia, walked over a mile, took great photos, and met a friendly couple along the trail. We also saw so many waterfalls that we were in awe the whole time.

Be sure to look for bald eagles and white-tailed deer.

Rock Climbing

If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush and amazing views, this activity is for you! You’ll get to climb up cliffs while harnessed in by a rope system. The guides will help keep you safe throughout your climb and ensure an unforgettable experience.

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding through the Gorge is available outside the park with a 3rd party outfit. It’s a 2-hour ride for $90.

Where To Stay At The Adventures Of  The Gorge

So, we stayed in cabins with a loft, bathroom, couch, TV, kitchen table, microwave, coffee pot, and a lovely porch. It was small, but the beds in the loft were so comfortable, and we couldn’t wait to jump in under the sheets after full days of action-packed activities.

There are also cabins with hot tubs and adorable glamping tents scattered in the woods. There’s nothing better than camping in the woods with full amenities! That’s my way of camping and enjoying the great outdoors!
