While on our Big Sky Montana vacation for nine days, we took a day out to visit the park.

This view is what our drive into the park looked like the whole way there. We stopped a couple of times to see the view and take pictures.

Driving into Yellowstone National Park, animals were coming out in all directions. We were in awe of seeing beautiful wildlife that we don’t see in Texas, where we are from and live.

If you look right in the middle of the photo, you’ll see a Bald Eagle. Everyone, and I mean everyone, pulled over and stopped to get this shot – only to be stopped by the Park Rangers. It’s against their policy to stop in the middle of the road for anything! I wish my photo had turned out better. But that white spot is a Bald Eagle!

How to Become a Yellowstone National Park Jr. Ranger

First, you’ll purchase a workbook from the office.
Go around the park, looking for the items in the book.
Once you check off all the details in the book you found and do a few more activities, like the one above, you and your child will go to the office to get sworn in and get your child’s badge.

The girl behind the desk is reviewing the workbook with our son and asking him questions to ensure he did what was required to get the Jr. Ranger badge. My husband is standing by to help him with his answers. Our son is very shy and sometimes needs a nudge or two.

Brody is getting sworn in so he can get his badge. Is that the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?

Brody is now a Yellowstone National Park Jr. Ranger!

There are three badges a kid can get and goes by age group. This badge is the first for his age group. Next time we go back, he can receive another badge.

So, as you can see, there is plenty of things to do at Yellowstone National Park with children.
