We took the most fabulous family road trip to New Braunfels through the beautiful Texas Hill Country a couple of months ago, and much to my surprise, all three of us loved it so much we want to go back. Take a road trip to New Braunfels soon – it’s worth it!
Taking a road trip to New Braunfels is just what the doctor ordered!!
Driving Hwy 281 is most definitely the way to travel to go to Texas Hill Country. The drive is beautiful, and you get to see scenery you wouldn’t get to see if going on Interstate 35, plus less traffic. We passed antique shops, garden shops, hills, and meadows. Small towns on the way have a lot to offer. After all, they want you to stop in their village, so they make it extra special for us Texas travelers.

Road Trip to New Braunfels
This family road trip to New Braunfels in the hill country is one trip everyone should do a couple of times. The scenery alone is something to look forward to. If you like the outdoors and nature, you’ll put this trip and route way up high on your bucket list!!
I bought 10 of these handmade hammers (below) because I thought it would be cool to paint them or leave them as is. I believe they would make a great conversation piece if nothing else. There are two that look like they were made from birch which I will not paint. Aren’t these neat?
When we got to town, we went straight to the Natural Bridge Caverns where we took the Discovery Tour. I wrote a separate post on that if you would like to read it here.

That evening after going to dinner in the quaint town of Gruene, we went swimming in the hotel pool. Swimming in hotel pools is still one of Brody’s favorite things to do when we go on vacation. Yep, all the fun activities we do, he likes to swim in the hotel pool the best.

Speaking of Gruene, if you’ve never been, put it on your bucket list too. It’s such a relaxed small town with lots to offer; such as antique shopping, lovely indoor & outdoor dining, a famous dance hall where George Straight first played, lots of pots filled with beautiful flowers, ice cream shops, parks, and more. Gosh, I would go crazy in this town if I lived here.
Whenever I get a chance to take photos of old trucks I do, I love old trucks – all kinds, all colors.
The next day we went to Schlitterbahn. What a fun waterpark!
When will you take a road trip to New Braunfels? Let me know when you do and how you liked it. My family loves road trips the best. Can’t wait for our next one!!
