Oatmeal Mandarin Goat Milk Soap

Have you ever wanted to make soap at home but thought it was too hard and complicated? I finally dove-in on the idea and have found that it’s a simple process. Here’s my step by step DIY Oatmeal Mandarin Goat Milk Soap instructions.

DIY Oatmeal Mandarin Goat Milk Soap

After you realize how easy it is to make soap bars at home, I bet you’ll want to keep making more. I know I do. This goat milk soap is a natural way to get clean. All you need is a few items, and you’ll have homemade soap the same day. I bought some of my supplies on Amazon, but I also used Willow and Sage.

Homemade soap made at home

After researching how to make soap, I’ve learned there are three popular ways to make it: cold process, hot process, and melt-and-pour. For beginners, and the easiest way is the melt-and-pour method. The soap base is made already, and all you have to do is add in your ingredients to make the soap you want. I am using the melt-and-pour method to make these soaps.

Where to buy supplies for soap making

  1. Our Earth’s Secrets 2 pounds Goat’s Milk Soap Base on Amazon
  2. Dried Calendula at Willow and Sage
  3. Grab bulk oatmeal (if making a lot) at Sprouts or any at your local grocery store that sells in bulk
  4. Buy raw honey from your local source.
  5. Essential oils are available on my doTerra web page.
  6. Soap Molds (if not using something you already have) can be found on Amazon and Bramble Berry.

If you are using standard-sized soap molds, you will get 8-1 inch bars with this recipe. Scroll down for instructions.

Before you get started making your soap, you are going to want to “prep your station” – get everything ready, measure your ingredients, and have everything ready to go, because you’re going to want to keep an eye on the soap as it’s melting.

DIY Oatmeal Mandarin Goat Milk Soap

An easy homemade soap recipe made with goat's milk

Prep Time 45 minutes
Let soap harden 4 hours
Author Kim

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Goat's Milk Melt-and-Pour Soap Base
  • 1/2 cup Dried Calendula
  • 3 tbs Oatmeal, grounded in grinder or blender
  • 2 tbs Raw Honey
  • 1-1/2 tsp Mandarin or Wild Orange Essential Oil
  • Soap mold or any type of container like an old vintage pan, the bottom of a milk carton, old box, etc.
  • Double-boiler or a glass bowl and a pot
  • A coffee grinder or blender
  • Parchment or wax paper (for home remedy wood soap mold)
  • Wooden spoon & a sharp knife to cut your soap

Instructions

  1. Cut soap base in cubes and add it to a double-boiler or a glass bowl on top of a pot. Turn heat to medium-low and stir constantly as the soap base melts. Turn to low to finish melting. Do not let the soap boil.

  2. Take the pot off the heat and let the temperature cool slightly as the soap base thickens (3-4 mins), keep stirring as you add in the dried calendula and ground oatmeal. Stir until incorporated.

  3. Let the soap cool a little bit more before adding the raw honey and the mandarin or wild orange essential oil.

  4. Pour the melted soap into your mold of choice. If you are using anything other than a soap mold, place parchment paper down first. I used a vintage pan and laid parchment paper down inside pan. It was so easy to come out.

  5. Place your soap mold in a place where it can't be touched. You might want to lay a towel over it - that's what I did. Let it sit for about 3 hours. Test it first to see if it's hardened, if not leave let it sit for another hour. I let mine sit overnight.

  6. Unmold the soap and slice into bars.

How to package homemade soap

Because I used a shallow vintage pan, I got 16-1/2 inch soap bars. First wrapped two soaps with a thick white ribbon. Then I tied another ribbon around that.

Second, I packaged the two soap bars in a cello bag, sprinkled a tiny bit of dried calendula inside, and tied the cello bag with a thin piece of string. Cute, uh?

Please let me know how your soap turns out, and if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact me either in a comment or an email at [email protected] Good luck.
