Did you know that eating fruit in its season is better for you and tastes better? Yep, it’s true. Eating fruit (and vegetables) in its growing season offers a better taste and more nutrients.

The best time to eat blackberries is in its growing season. That way, you know they are fresh! Buy lots, bake with them, make drinks with them, etc., and freeze the rest AND make this fresh blackberry margarita recipe.

We’ve had a single blackberry bush for at least four years now that produces enough blackberries to make desserts and have leftovers to freeze or give to our neighbors. Then, about two years ago, my husband planted another one. We will have enough blackberries to make more blackberry desserts, and this year I’m making blackberry margaritas for our backyard parties.

When Do Blackberries Bloom?

Blackberries bloom in early June. However, our blackberry bushes start sprouting towards the middle of May, and they will stop producing before June ends. I think It depends on the weather, where you live, and if there’s lots of rain.

If you want to grow blackberries, plan to sprout around the middle to end of May. Below is the photo of my bushes now. These blackberries were picked between May 28th and 30th of this year. Only pick the purple ones!!

Benefits Of Eating Blackberries

Not only are blackberries full of vitamin C, but these fresh fruits are also a great source of vitamin K and are high in magnesium and fiber. So, while you’re serving up a sweet blackberry margarita for yourself and your friends, keep in mind you are eating a very nutritious fruit!
