AARP Photo Shoot for Disrupt Aging Online Magazine

January 26, 2018 Kim 24 Comments

The day you realize your life IS important. Important enough that AARP wanted to share your life in their online magazine. This is our AARP Photo Shoot for Disrupt Aging Online Magazine.

AARP Photo Shoot for Disrupt Aging Online Magazine

When your life takes an unusual turn what do you do?

AARP Photo Shoot for Disrupt Aging Online Magazine

AARP wrote a segment called 9 Stories of Positive Aging Despite Adversity. It’s about nine people who are thriving after something terrible or tragic had happened to them. Each story is entirely different, and mine is about losing my adult son.

Jason, a Dallas Photographer, and his assistant arrived early to scope out my house and set up their equipment. I was able to get my son out of school early that day, and my mom came to help me clean the house and lend a hand if needed. It was such a fun day.

Speaking of cleaning the house; All the while I thought they were going to take photos of us in my house. My mom and I spent all day cleaning my home. But no – Jason was more interested in the outside of my house – front and back. He spotted a Lemonade stand in my garden room out back. As you can see below, we used that in some of the photos.

Heather, the makeup artist, came a bit later and immediately started working on me. She fixed my hair and applied her makeup to my face. Oh yes, I felt special that day! I even got fake eyelashes. I thought she did a fantastic job on me.

I’m sure Jason took 50 or more pictures of me and my son, my son by himself and me by myself. AARP was only going to use one photo. You’ll see below which one they chose.

I’m sure my neighbors were wondering what in the world was going on. I did feel kind of like a movie star! Jason said my son did an outstanding job. Brody does have that natural smile that is so easy to love, and he is not at all shy of the camera.

Though the story behind all this is not a happy one, I am thrilled that AARP wanted to include my story in the segment of their Disrupt Aging online magazine.

Drug use among adults is widespread, and I’m just sorry we didn’t get to my adult son sooner. That is another story in its self. Maybe one day I’ll talk more about it.

Below is the photo AARP used for their article. It was taken on my front porch.

Read all about the nine stories here.

Our AARP Photo Shoot for Disrupt Aging Online Magazine was fun. Jason said after a specific time elapses he will send me a few of the professional shots that he took of us.

They chose a stunning photo of you and your son, I love it. Interesting though that out of 50 plus pics they only used one. But you have all the photos to keep and that is awesome. Congrats being picked for the story!
