You’re busy doing everything for your family, and before you know it, it will be time for back to school shopping. Well, we still have half the summer left, and it’s the perfect time for you to find ways to shop healthy for yourself and not feel a bit guilty about it. I’ve listed six ways to do just that.
Shop Healthy for Yourself this Summer
If you’re like me, you do shop for yourself but most of the time you can’t because someone else in the family needs things, and you always put them first. But we need to remember about treating ourselves to self-care. I’m huge into that term right now. Self-care includes taking care of ourselves in all areas, and shopping for ourselves is too.
When Brody, our grandson first came to live with us (almost ten years ago), I had to put myself aside and think about this tiny infant that we’re taking care of. Fast forward today, I still find myself forgetting about me and making sure he has everything he needs. I know, that’s what we are supposed to do. But we can’t forget who we are and our needs. I wouldn’t change a thing, but now as time goes by and I’m not getting any younger, I’ve got to practice more self-care than ever before. So – I’m buying that dress! Heck, I might buy the dress Maria is wearing in the above photo. Maria, a blogger friend of mine who owns and writes for Staying Close to Home, let me use a couple of her photos. Isn’t’ she cute? I just love her black dress!
6 Ways to Shop Healthy for Yourself
Don’t Feel Guilty
First, of all, don’t feel guilty that you’re spending money on yourself. I know I know, you will, but try not to. You’ve been busy taking care of everybody else, so you deserve some me-time, and you deserve to spend money on yourself! So shop healthy for yourself this summer and buy something you’ve been wanting.
Know Your Limit
You’re the only one who knows how much you can spend. We all like cute clothes and want to look our best. When I find a piece that I like that might be a little out of my budget, I may go ahead and buy it and pair it together with something that I already have. For example, buy that beautiful expensive blouse and wear it with a pair of jeans you’ve had for years and your summer shoes from last year. Mixing new and old is key and very trendy these days, like my friend Shelley, writer at Still Blonde After All These Years. I love how she’s wearing a gorgeous top with jeans and that adorable jean jacket.

Find Your Style
Are you classy, casual, hip, or perhaps a little of all three like me? So you’re shopping for shoes, and you find a pair you like. You text a friend to see if she loves them. She doesn’t, now what? Nothing, just be prepared for answers you may not want to hear. If you like it, buy it. If you want her opinion, then go with it, but make sure your style isn’t hers. Stick with your style, or you’ll regret your purchase when you get home.
Take a Shopping Break
You’ve been shopping all day, and you’re tired but not ready to go home. Take a break and get an afternoon coffee or a glass of wine to give you a bit of energy or that boost you need to keep on shopping!
Ask for a Coupon
Seriously, if you don’t have a coupon and you know the store using them all time, ask the associate behind the counter if she has one you can use. You never know unless you ask.
And, if you’re brave enough, ask if they will give you a discount. This happened to me, but vice versa. I was at a department store looking at UGG shoes, and the salesperson wanted so desperately to sell me the pair I was trying on. He tried to think of a way to give me a discount or a coupon, but sadly UGG won’t budge on their prices if not on sale already. But he did try.
Breathe
Take a deep breath before you return home and know everything will be okay. Oh, and don’t hide what you bought. You deserve it, so flaunt it!
It’s time you do these 6 ways to shop healthy for yourself and have fun doing it! And, go ahead and buy that dress!
