Are you not sleeping well these days? I wonder if you are doing any of these 6 Nasty Stealers of Your Sleep. Read on and find out, and how to change it.
6 Nasty Stealers of Your Sleep
We all need more sleep. Lately, I can’t seem to turn off my brain at night. Many of us can’t. It’s so troublesome, but hopefully by not doing these things may help some of us!
Not winding down before bed
Take at least 30-minutes to wind down before bed. Unlike kids, we all know it unrealistic to think we as adults will fall asleep the minute our heads hit the pillow, that’s why we have to wind down. Take time to decompress, turn down the lights and do something that helps you unwind, like read a book. Reading makes me fall asleep, does it you? I often use Insomnia Treatment by Amoils to help me wind down at night. Something about essential oils can relax the mind. Try it.
Alarm clock too loud and too close to you
If I had to worry about a loud alarm clock going off in the morning, I might not sleep well. I read where it’s best to turn it down, or turn music on instead of loud noise, and move it far away from you. That way it won’t scare you, and plus, you’ll have to get up to turn it off. I promise, one day, you may never have to wake up to an alarm clock again. Believe it or not, getting up in the morning gets better as you age. I haven’t woken up to an alarm clock in over 20 years.
A nightcap could be disrupting your sleep
Not everyone can drink a glass of wine then go to sleep. I sure can’t, and if I did, I’d be up at night going pee. Alcohol can also impact snoring issues by relaxing the muscles at the back of the throat, and you don’t want to start that bad habit. A nightcap might be relaxing, but it can rebound on you and wake you up tossing and turning.
Eating the wrong foods too late at night
A processed cheesy dinner right before bed can lead to nightmares. It would be anyway. The older we get, the less we can handle eating a filling dinner to close to bedtime. I’m sure that goes with any age though. Try not to eat late at night, and if you have to, stay away from cheese – the yellow kind for sure!!
Lights are too bright in the bedroom
My bedtime regimen is to dim the lights, get undressed, wash my face, undo my bed and hop in. I can do this in darkness, can you? Try it. I also never turn on a full light in the morning. I look for my dimmer in the bathroom and turn that on. Just a thought.
Social media – duh!
Don’t do it, don’t do that one last tweet. You might read something that will upset you and keep you up longer. Quiet that brain and go night-night.
Which of these 6 nasty sleep stealers of your sleep is your pet peeve? We all have them. Mine is social media and those stupid games I play on my phone. Though the game Solitaire does put me to sleep!
