Here are 3 ways I get my child outdoors that work for us.
In my busy blogging hours, I can get carried away (as we sometimes can), only to leave Brody stuck inside for perhaps too long. So when I think it’s time for us to go outside to get fresh air and run around, we go on a scavenger hunt. Here are 3 ways I get my child outdoors and away from the TV.
Out of these three below, the scavenger hunt works the best!
Have A Scavenger Hunt To Get Your Child Outdoors
I have found with Brody that if he gets too comfortable indoors, he won’t want to go outside at all. He loves to find things out…and of course, loves to bring them inside too!! I’ve got him loving Nature as much as I do. So we grab a bag, a list, and a pencil, and we are off outdoors in no time to have a scavenger hunt.
Race To The Mailbox
Another fun thing he likes to do is race to the mailbox. All I have to say is, “I’m going to go check the mail,” then he’ll say, “I’ll race ya.” We always end up playing outside for at least a little while until the heat gets to us. Brody doesn’t like the hot weather either – thank goodness fall is coming!
Water Plants Together
Watering plants is Brody’s favorite thing to help me with – something about that water hose! Most of the time, he ends up all wet. In the springtime, I have lots of plants and flowers that need watering and care, which puts us outdoors for at least an hour.
Update: I have another one – make a fire in the firepit and roast s’mores – works every time!
What’s with boys and outdoors? If I don’t watch him, he’ll have his pants down peeing in the grass – and did I mention we are in the front yard! AND we live on the corner of a semi-busy street. My neighbors sure get a kick out of this.
These three things might seem trivial to some, but sometimes I find it hard to get him excited to go outside and play. We have this great play set in the backyard that he very seldom will go play in. The last thing I want is for him to be a couch potato – so if any of you have any more fun ways to get him outdoors, I’d love to hear it.
There you have it, three ways I get my child outdoors. Try it yourself…I bet it will work for you too!!
